TasFarmers president Ian Sauer has called on the farming community to ‘cool their jets’ in the wake of letters from JBS cancelling forward contracts with some farmers.

The letters follow the announcement earlier today by US President Donald Trump of a 10 per cent tariff on Australian beef.

“This is a moment in time when everyone one needs to cool their jets, it’s uncertain times,” Mr Sauer said.

“And when there is uncertainty, prices go down and people make rash decisions.

“We understand that JBS has sent letters out closing forward contracts.

“We would hope that these would be reinstated in the coming days with an explanation,” Mr Sauer said.
