CHARGES against a former King Island mayor, who had pleaded not guilty to charges of possessing and producing child exploitation material,  have been dropped.

Alistair Duncan McFie, 57, known as Duncan McFie, walked free from a Hobart courtroom on Tuesday.

He appeared in the Supreme Court for what was listed as a procedural hearing before Associate Justice Michael Daly.

During the hearing, prosecutors informed the court that the case against Mr. McFie had been “discharged”.

In September last year, Mr McFie formally pleaded not guilty in the Hobart Magistrates Court to allegations related to incidents on King Island in late 2022.

Mr. McFie served as mayor of King Island Council from 2014 to 2018 and resigned from the council in 2024.

A music teacher, he was suspended from his position at King Island District School following the charges.

The Tasmanian Department of Education, Children and Young People has not provided comment regarding Mr. McFie’s employment status after the charges were dropped.

It is understood that Mr McFie who is also founder of Cloud Juice, an awarded fine water produced on King Island, has relocated interstate.
