State Government announces new feral cat management grant
The Tasmanian Government has committed $500,000 in grant funding for new cat management facilities on the North-West and West Coasts of Tasmania.
The initiative is part of the government’s effort to improve the management of feral and domestic cats, a growing concern due to their impact on Tasmania’s native wildlife.
Primary Industries Minister Jane Howlett recently announced the opening of the grant program with the total funding pool set at $500,000.
The funding will be allocated to one or more successful applicants, depending on the proposed solutions for cat management.
Applications for the grant are open until February 21, 2025.
“We have listened and know that having access to cat management facilities is a priority for the community,” Ms Howlett said.
“We are also developing the Tasmanian Cat Management Plan 2024-2029 to guide future management activities in consultation with key stakeholders.”
To apply for the grant, applicants must meet eligibility criteria outlined on the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment website.
The government encourages all interested parties to submit their proposals and contribute to this important project for Tasmania’s future.
Details of the grant, including eligibility criteria and how to apply, can be found on the Department’s website.
