AGFEST is set to stick with this year’s four-day format for its 40th anniversary event next May.
After a unanimous vote, Caine Evans will take over the reins of Tasmania’s biggest rural event following the recent Agfest annual general meeting.
Mr Evans was voted in as the chairman of Agfest 2022 and will head up a new executive committee that comprises vice-chairman Caitlin Radford, operations manager Callum Forbes, exhibitor manager Dave Lucas, security manager Owen Woolley, features manager Georgia Pearce, Rural Youth Tasmania member Alex Robins and Rural Youth state president Jake Williams.
“We have built a really strong committee and it is a really exciting time for the Agfest event,” Mr Evans said.
Despite ongoing uncertainty surrounding the staging of large-scale events, the committee is determined to deliver another COVID-19-safe success.
After taking on board feedback from this year’s successful event, the committee is now preparing for next year’s 40th anniversary Agfest.
They are once again planning to run a four-day event, which will be held in the paddock from May 4-7 at Quercus Park in Carrick.
A daily maximum of 15,000 patrons, including event and exhibitor staff, is the aim, but will be subject to approval from Tasmanian Public Health.
This cap on numbers on site will allow for a total of up to 60,000 people over the four days. The committee also plans to introduce new opening hours for patrons from 8am to 4pm. All tickets will be pre-sold with improved exhibitor ticketing.
The Agfest in the Cloud online event will be activated at noon on May 7 and will run until May 14. There are also plans to disperse Quercus Tastes food vendors to grouped areas around the site to assist with crowd flow.
The craft and business and lifestyle pavilions will be back in a new layout to encourage safe traffic flow.
There will also be a new Tasmanian Hospitality Association feature located in the main pavilion incorporating vendors, a careers expo, paddock-to-plate experience and a refreshment centre.
Applications to exhibit at the 2022 event open on October 1 and close on December 1.
