Hold on to your horses … the rodeo’s back

A HUGE crowd turned out to last week’s Harveydale Rodeo kick-starting what organisers hope will be a successful rodeo season. A crowd of about 5000 people attended the event, much to the delight of organiser Ian Brown from ID Rodeo Promotions.

“We had about double the amount of people there that we thought we’d get,” he said. The big crowd numbers saw food vendors having to re-stock and Mr Brown said they had to do three trips to the local pub to make sure there were enough drinks for the rodeo bar.

“It took everyone a bit by surprise,” he said. The rodeo returned to Harveydale last week after a five-year break and Mr Brown said the newly refurbished grandstand was a welcome addition. He said hundreds of people also camped at the rodeo grounds for the night. After a break due to Covid restrictions, Tasmania’s rodeo season is now in full swing.

The next event will be the popular Ulverstone Rodeo which will be held on February 4 at the Batten Park Grounds, South Road Ulverstone. All the action will get underway from 4pm. The event will include a full rodeo program and a live band that night. Proceeds from the event will go to support Huntington’s Disease Tasmania.

After that, the next rodeo event will be held at Scottsdale on February 11.
