Tasmania experienced the coldest July since 2017 according to official figures released by the Bureau of Meteorology.

Nights in July were particularly cold with temperatures -0.06C cooler than the 1961-1990 average.

This was despite the mean maximum temperature for Tasmania actually being 0.34C warmer than the 1961-1990 average.

Minimum temperatures were close to average for most of the state, with patches of above average in the south-east and north-west, and a patch of below average in the central west.

Despite some sites recording the highest total July rainfall on record, and others their highest total July rainfall for at least 20 years, overall rainfall was 26 per cent below the 1961-1990 average for July.

Some parts of the east and north-east had above average rainfall with and a low pressure system to the east of Tasmania brought steady rain and strong winds to parts of the state.

Some sites also had their highest July temperatures on record including Wynyard Airport which got to 17.9C on the 10th and Dover which recorded 19.8C on the 24th.

Launceston Airport had its equal lowest July temperature on record at -5.4C on the 5th.

Other sites which had their coldest overnight July temperature were Wynyard Airport with -4 on the 6th and Liawenee which got down to -13.5C on the 4th.

Some sites had their warmest July night on record including Launceston Airport which only got down to 10.8C on the 23rd.
