ONE of the country’s biggest animal feed companies will soon begin manufacturing in Tasmania after buying the major feed mill.

Ridley Corporation has recently purchased the Pure Foods Eggs’ feed mill at Carrick.

The deal will see Ridley increase its feed offering to Tasmanian dairy, beef, sheep, poultry and pork producers.

Ridley CEO Quinton Hildebrand said the Carrick feed mill will play a crucial role in Ridley’s nationwide manufacturing network.

“Our investment in the Carrick feed mill will strengthen our relationships with Tasmanian livestock producers and support local cereal growers,” he said.

We see significant potential to expand the feed mill’s capacity as we offer a comprehensive range of locally produced performance feeds,” Mr Hildebrand said.

Pure Foods Eggs CEO Laura Manion said the sale would help the business – Tasmania’s largest distributor of eggs – continue to develop their core activities of egg production and distribution, to support its Tasmanian consumers.

“Pure Food Eggs has a commitment to farming the best quality eggs for Tasmanians and selling the Carrick mill allows us to focus on this core business,” she said.

“We will continue to support Tasmanian cereal crop farmers by way of a long-term feed supply agreement with Ridley.

PFE has enjoyed a great working relationship with Ridley over the past decade and looks forward to continuing this well into the future.”

The site will operate under the Ridley banner and leadership of Matt Schrama, Ridley’s Regional General Manager of Stockfeed for Victoria and Tasmania.

Mr Schrama said the current Carrick mill team will join the Ridley business, and additional staff will be employed in line with the plans to increase production.

“The feed mill is in good condition, and we look forward to taking it to the next level, supporting the performance of livestock production in Tasmania,” said Mr Schrama.
