Little Swanport accommodation 'Gum Leaves' closes after ongoing bad behaviour
POPULAR bush campsite, Gumleaves at Little Swanport on the East Coast, is shutting down for the foreseeable future due to bad behaviour from some visitors.
The bush retreat will honour existing bookings, but will not be taking new ones for a time.
"To all the guests who have treated the place respectfully we thank you and look forward to seeing you again soon," Tom from Gumleaves posted on social media.
"To the other guests who have broken everything from tennis rackets and table tennis bats, stealing life jackets and even oars etc - sometimes things break but not at the rate that it has been,"
"Too many times we've found things deliberately smashed to pieces, you can tell the difference, the littering, the disregard for other people with loud and abusive behaviour, to the group in camp grounds last weekend thanks but that was the last straw for us," he said.
"We will open again bigger and better but with far stricter rules, deposits on arrival and if people are seen to be hurting the animals, which again happens far too often," he said, addressing the families whose kids hit golf balls at their pigs: "I hope you read this."
"[The pigs] are like our children and have been raised with love so you can meet and feed them."
"This place is a great escape for all people and too many are ruining it for the rest of us."
"The gate is closed so no driving in please until we are ready to accept guests again," he wrote.
Gumleaves offered a wide range of accommodation options catering for individuals through to large groups of up to 120.
The owners say they have been encouraged by the outpouring of support since making their statement earlier this month.
