State Lyons recount begins

A recount to replace former Lyons Labor MP Rebecca White has started at noon today.

Due to the large number of candidates contesting the recount, a result is unlikely to be known today.

Fifteen candidates have agreed to be included in the recount, they are:

• Tasmanian Greens Craig Brown, Mitch Houghton, Hannah Rubenach-Quinn.
• The Labor Party’s  Edwin Batt, Ben Dudman, Casey Farrell, Richard Goss and Carole McQueeney.
• The Jacqui Lambie Network’s Lesley Pyecroft,
• Shooters, Fishers, Farmers TAS’s Phillip Bigg, Wayne Turale and Ray Williams
• as well as ungrouped Angela Offord, Jenny Branch-Allen and Lou Triffitt.

Given only Ms White's ballot papers (15,600 first preferences) will be counted, it is almost certain the new MP will be a Labor candidate.
