Bridgewater Bridge a finalist in national awards

Tasmania’s largest ever transport infrastructure project, the Bridgewater Bridge, has been named a finalist for the 2025 Australian Construction Achievement Award.
Construction on the $786 million Australian and Tasmanian government-funded project is nearing completion, with the new bridge due to open to traffic in coming months.
The Tasmanian entry will be up against six other outstanding projects:
- The Metronet Morley to Ellenbrook railway line in Perth, Western Australia
- The Pakenham level crossing removal project in Pakenham, Victoria
- The South Geelong to Waurn Pond duplication project in South Geelong, Victoria
- The Sydney Gateway Project in New South Wales
- The Queen Elizabeth Hospital stage 3 redevelopment in Woodville, South Australia
- The Metronet Victoria Park to Canning level crossing removal project in Perth, Western Australia
Infrastructure minister Kerry Vincent said the project, being delivered by McConnell Dowell, joined six of the most impactful projects in Australia’s recent construction industry as finalists.
“Projects of this size and scale don’t come around often in Tasmania and there has been collaboration right across the civil construction industry, creating a legacy all Tasmanians can be proud of,” Minister Vincent said.
“It is clear when visiting the project site there is a real sense of achievement and pride among everyone involved.
“Recognition as a finalist highlights the project’s dedication to innovation and excellence while acknowledging the hard work of every person involved, from the early planning stages right through to the final months of construction.
“Aside from the actual construction, the project has provided increased capacity and capability in local skills within the State’s civil construction industry, building an upskilled workforce ready to take on future Tasmanian projects.

“I wish the project team the best of luck as the awards are decided and will be barracking for the New Bridgewater Bridge to come out the ultimate 2025 winner,” he said.
Traffic barriers and railings are being installed, asphalting work is underway, the shared pedestrian and cycling paths are being completed and an Intelligent Transport System installed, ahead of the bridge's opening.
The Australian Construction Achievement Award, the industry’s highest honour, recognises not only construction and engineering excellence, but also how these projects are shaping a more progressive and sustainable construction industry.
The winner will be announced in August. For more information about the finalists visit https://acaa.net.au/finalists-2025/
