Federal Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has committed funds from the Safer Communities Fund (SCF) towards improving security at New Norfolk’s Tynwald Park.

Mr Dutton was in Tasmania this past week as part of the leadup to the Federal election, due by May.

He also committed SCF funds to a similar security system for St Helens, also in the key Tasmanian electorate of Lyons.

Speaking in New Norfolk, along with Liberal Lyons candidate Susie Bower, he said the $15,000 infrastructure envisaged for Tynwald Park would enhance public safety in one of New Norfolk’s most popular public spaces.

“It’s an investment that directly benefits families, local residents, and the broader community by ensuring Tynwald Park remains a safe and enjoyable space,” he said.

Ms Bower added: “Tynwald Park is at the heart of New Norfolk’s community life, providing a cherished space for family BBQs, picnics, and an educational bike track.”

“I have heard firsthand from residents about the need for improved security infrastructure to make this area safer for everyone. I am proud to support these upgrades as part of our broader commitment to the Lyons community to listen and deliver practical measures that improve quality of life.”

The revitalised SCF will build on the programme established by the previous Coalition Government, delivering funding for councils, schools, and local organisations to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour, enhance security around community and public facilities, and promote social cohesion.
