A recount for the state seat of Lyons vacated by Rebecca White will be held on Monday, 3rd March.

The vacancy was created by Ms White's resignation as a member of the state House of Assembly. Ms White is seeking to represent Lyons at a Federal level at the coming electing election.

The recount will involve all Lyons candidates not elected in the 2024 state election.

Electoral Commission figures show a total of 36 candidates contested that election; seven were elected.

Under a recount in the Hare-Clark electoral system, only the preference votes of the resigning member are re-counted. This is designed to try and ensure that the person elected  to fill the vacancy is as "close to" the originally elected member as possible. It also means that the winner is almost certainly likely to be a member of the same party (in this case, Labor).

According to election analyst Kevin Bonham, the favourites in the recount are Meander Valley Councillor Ben Dudman, and Northern Midlands Councillor Richard Goss.

Public notices will be issued on Saturday 15 February 2025, inviting candidates to nominate to contest the recount. The Electoral Commissioner will also write to those candidates.

Nominations are to be received by 12 noon on Monday 3 March 2025, with the recount to begin shortly after.

A final result is expected in the days to follow, with progressive results published on the TEC website.
