The 2023/24 Fire Permit Period for King Island will end tomorrow Tuesday, 6 August 2024.

You don’t require a fire permit from 2 am tomorrow.

Until recent weeks King Island has experienced historically dry conditions necessitating shipments of feed to the Island from mainland Australia.

The lifting of the fire permits follows relatively significant rainfall during July.

Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Jeremy Smith said conditions now allow the fire permit period to be revoked.

However, the Tasmanian Fire Service (TFS) encourages burns to be registered by calling 1800 000 699. “Registering your burn will keep the TFS in the loop if your local brigade needs to respond to your burn,” the TFS said.

“Anyone conducting a burn must be capable of managing it and mindful of weather conditions.

“Burning on private property is also governed by local council by-laws and environmental laws about smoke emissions,” the TFS added.
