Man dies in overnight house fire

A man has died after a house fire at Bicheno overnight.

Police and emergency services were called to Beattie Avenue at Bicheno about 1.15am after reports a house was on fire.

Tasmania Fire Service crews from Bicheno, Coles Bay and Swansea brigades attended and found the house to be well alight.

The fire was contained, but the house and a vehicle at the property were destroyed.

A body was located inside the residence this morning.

A formal identification has yet to be conducted but it is believed to be a man who lived at the property.

A fire scene examination is being conducted to determine the cause of the fire.

Damage has been estimated at $600,000.

A formal identification of the deceased will be conducted and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
