Star King Island runner, Stewart McSweyn, was "upbeat" following his Olympic performance which included competing in the 5,000 metre final, according to his mother, Jacky Richards.

"Stewart was upbeat when we last saw him and very happy to have competed in the Olympic 5000m final," Ms Richards said.

"Stewart is heading back to his base in London, hoping to continue to participate in the upcoming events in the rest of the Diamond League athletics season."

Ms Richards said that the family had a good time in Paris supporting Stewart and lapping up the Olympic atmosphere.

“We had a good time in Paris, located close to the Stade de France within a short walking distance to the athletic events", Jacky said.

"We enjoyed the weather and felt safe getting around Paris despite the chaotic drivers.

"The athletic stadium was packed morning and night sessions, with over 70,000 in the crowd each session.

"The French were very vocal and passionate about all their athletes.

"We also enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with family and friends and with Stewart after his events.

"He was often in demand with the sporting public from various nations requesting photo selfies with him."
