Nation toasts our sector today
TODAY is National Agriculture Day and farmers across the country are being encouraged to celebrate.
National Farmers Federation president David Jochinke said AgDay and its theme “Grow you good thing!” was all about celebrating Aussie grown and connecting Australians with our farm sector.
“It doesn’t matter where you live or what you do, every single person depends on agriculture every single day,” he said.
“National Agriculture Day is the perfect way to recognise and celebrate this.”
Aussie Pumps Mr Jochinke said in Australia it was easy to pop into the supermarket and load a trolley full of fresh, nutritious food.
“That’s simply not the case in some part of the world,” he said.
“Even at the moment, when some parts of Australia are struggling with extremely dry times, consumers don’t notice a difference when they’re shopping.
"Australian farmers are up there as the best in the world at what they do. We should all be proud of that – and farmers should be proud of the work they do to feed and clothe us.”
He encouraged everyday Australians to participate in the day by joining an event, wearing their AgDay t-shirt and learning about farming.
He also urged farmers to participate in the day and show the world why they love what they do.
“I know it’s a busy time for many farmers with grain harvest in full swing, but I hope farmers can also take a moment to share with the public what’s happening on their farm,” he said.
