Premier in tungsten mine plea to Feds

Premier and Minister for Trade and Major Investment, Jeremy Rockliff, has written to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese calling on the Federal Government to partner with the Tasmanian Government in securing the long-term viability of the Dolphin Tungsten Mine on King Island.
Premier Rockliff emphasised that while the Tasmanian Liberal Government has already invested in the mine — supporting local jobs and boosting the state’s economy — further support is needed as production scales up to sustainable levels.
“Tungsten is a critical mineral that underpins some of Tasmania’s and Australia’s most vital and rapidly growing industries, including defence, aerospace, and energy,” Premier Rockliff said.
“With China accounting for 80 per cent of global tungsten production, maintaining and strengthening domestic supply is essential for Australia’s sovereign capability and the economic resilience of King Island and Tasmania.
“It is crucial that the Australian Government steps up to ensure a stable, long-term supply of this strategic resource through the Dolphin Tungsten Mine.”
