Water sales open for Greater South East Irrigation Scheme

Farmers and landowners in the southeast of Tasmania have an opportunity to future proof their agricultural business, with water sales now open for the $301 million Greater South East Irrigation Scheme.
Landowners in locations including Gretna, Campania, Richmond, Tea Tree, Sorell and Forcett now have the opportunity to secure highly reliable, cost- effective irrigation water.
The scheme will bring more than 30,000 ML of new water to farmers, enabling them to diversify farming practices, and giving them confidence to invest in high-value agricultural activity.
Access to highly reliable water for irrigation will significantly enhance productivity, help farmers adapt to climate challenges, and provide long- term water security for the agricultural sector.
A field day was recently hosted by Tasmanian Irrigation offered farmers and producers an opportunity to talk to agronomists, agricultural suppliers and peak bodies about all things irrigation.
If farmers missed the Field Day, they can find out more by contacting the Tasmanian Irrigation team on (03)6398 8433 or gseis@tasirrigation.com.au to make an appointment downloading a water sales information pack at www.tasmanian irrigation.com.au or coming along to a drop in day to get information and assistance with their water sales application.
Drop in days are happening on 3 April, 10 April and 17 April at the Richmond Supper Hall, from 10am-3pm.
The GSEIS will serve more than 300 irrigators, both existing and new, integrate three existing irrigation schemes in the region, and increase the overall irrigation reliability and capacity.
While existing irrigators and local landowners will be prioritised, the water sales process is also open to any party interested in acquiring water.
Water sales are open until April 17.
