Tasmania Police has announced they will be beefing up their presence in New Norfolk.

The announcement comes following a spate of crime in the region and a recent meeting, overseen by Mayor Michelle Dracoulis, between business owners and police.

“Today was the start of a high visibility policing strategy for the New Norfolk municipality, which will include a range of planned operations over the next 12 months," Divisional Inspector Marco Ghedini said.

“Our strategy will not only target road safety but will specifically focus on a highly visible and targeted police presence within the New Norfolk central business area.

“The strategy has been developed following consultation and feedback from the local community, and police will continue to work collaboratively with local government and the community to keep the community safe”.

Mr Gendhi said that today, Police from Bridgewater Division conducted high visibility traffic operations in New Norfolk today, targeting school zones and speeding offences.

“As a result of the operation, police issued several infringement notices for speeding, including in school zones.”

“Police detected seven drivers speeding and intercepted a vehicle which had been unregistered for over a year.”

Anyone who witnesses dangerous driving or anti-social behaviour is urged to report to police on 131 444 or Triple Zero (000) in an emergency.
