You can’t have too much silverware in the clubroom – and the Longford Football Club reserves are keen to add a fourth consecutive premiership cup to the shelf.

In fact two cups would be even better, with Longford seniors and reserves both advancing to the NTFA grand final this weekend after two thrilling finishes in their preliminary final matches at Longford last Saturday.

Both teams will tackle South Launceston in the farewell grand final in the NTFA competition before the new Northern Premier League starts next year.

Players spent some time in the pool on Monday, trained on Tuesday as the main session and then had a light “captain’s run” on Thursday followed by a players’ dinner with community supporters.

Club president Rob Moore said that it’s important to enjoy the lead-in to grand final day “because these opportunities don’t come around too often”.

Having said that there’s no doubt the top sides are on a roll – the seniors are playing for the flag for the second time in as many years after a disappointing loss last year.

“This group has worked considerably hard, and we’ll have 16 boys that played in the 2022 premiership that will run out in the grand final and we will be able to draw on their experience on the day,” Moore said.

Longford seniors take on South Launceston at UTAS Stadium at 3.30pm following the reserves game at 12.50pm.
