LIVESTOCK will be a major focus at this year’s Deloraine Show with a large number of competitors in the sheep and cattle sections. This year’s show will be held on November 23.

A revamp of the show’s beef cattle section will see more than $1000 in cash and prizes up for grabs.

Section organiser Sheeree Lawrence said the winner of the supreme exhibit award would win a hay ring feeder.

Ms Lawrence said the cattle section was really focused on the youth showing, with junior judging being held on Friday afternoon for beef and dairy.

On the Saturday, the junior parader competitions for beef and dairy will be held along with the state final for dairy judging, with the winner to represent Tasmania at the Adelaide Royal for the national title.

The program also includes the Chris Best Memorial school teams event. Other attractions this year will include well-known trial bike competitor Chris Bayles. The popular Wheelie Bin race is also back.

It will see teams of two race to first assemble their wheelie bins and then push one partner in the bin through the course.

Mascots from clubs and businesses will race at the show to be crowned Deloraine’s fastest mascot. Both races can be entered on the day at the Chilli FM tent. Another popular returning event is the crazy bikes competition.

This year’s Deloraine Show is hosting the Tasmanian Whip Cracking Championship which will see competitors from all over the state and the mainland vie for the top prize.

The competition kicks off at 10am and will go through until the middle of the afternoon.

Gates open at 9am at the showgrounds. Entry is $12, $5 for children with and under fives free.
